Derma Co. tinted sunscreen image

Most of us swipe right on a sunscreen with a high SPF rating and high hopes. Then you go on blind dates with mineral and physical sunscreens, praying they won’t leave you with a ghastly white cast. And let’s not even talk about the texture—some sunscreens feel like slathering peanut butter on your face!

But for those of us blessed with beautifully colored skin in a tropical country, the quest for the Holy Grail of sunscreens becomes even more daunting. We can’t afford to overlook a single aspect. We demand nothing short of perfection, and rightly so!

Enter The Derma Co. 1% Hyaluronic Tinted Sunscreen Gel with SPF 60 & PA++++ sunscreen—the potential savior of our sun-kissed skin. This tinted sunscreen comes in only one shade, claiming to be a one-size-fits-all solution for different skin colors. Armed with optimism and a dash of skepticism, we embarked on a month-long journey to test the veracity of The Derma Co. 1% Hyaluronic Tinted Sunscreen Gel claims.

Brand Claims and Ingredients

This tinted sunscreen by The Derma Co. claims to be a universal color match that will also enhance the radiance of the skin. They also claim that it is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and oily skin. Its gel formula is expected to glide over the skin smoothly without any pilling. Owing to its 1% hyaluronic acid content, this product also doubles as a moisturizer.

The sunscreen comes with SPF 60 and PA++++. It is fragrance-free and protects you from both UVA & UVB sun rays.

This product also has amazing spreadability and an ultra-smooth texture owing to Cyclopentasiloxane Crosspolymer and Dimethicone crosspolymer, which are silicone-based ingredients, commonly used in sunscreens as a base or carrier for other ingredients. They do not provide sun protection themselves but help with the spreadability and texture of the product.

Ingredients

  • Cyclopentasiloxane Crosspolymer
  • Dimethicone Crosspolymer
  • Zinc Oxide
  • Coco-Caprylate/Caprate
  • Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate
  • Isostearic Acid
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Dimethicone
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Thermus Thermophillus Ferment
  • Iron Oxides

Physical Impressions

The DermaCo tinted sunscreen is available in two sizes: a 30 mL tube and a 50 mL pump bottle. The packaging features a distinct black and peach color scheme. The larger pump bottle has a sturdy feel and is convenient to carry around. However, due to its cylindrical shape, it tends to topple easily when placed on a counter, which can be a bit bothersome. On the other hand, the smaller tube version is compact and ideal for travel purposes.

As promised by the brand, the sunscreen lives up to its lightweight claim and boasts a smooth texture. It effortlessly glides onto the skin and blends well with most skin tones. The product also has a mattifying effect without making the skin appear dull. However, individuals with darker skin tones may initially notice a slight white cast upon application, which typically fades away within 1-2 hours.

Application Impression

The Derma Co. describes their sunscreen as a “gel,” although it doesn’t precisely fit the gel consistency. It has a mousse-like texture that spreads effortlessly and blends almost seamlessly with most skin tones. However, for deeper skin colors, it may require some additional time and effort to achieve a better match. Initially, there might be a slight white cast on darker tones, but it tends to fade away within a few hours.

Despite its lightness, the product provides effective sun protection and doesn’t feel like you’ve applied anything, even if you follow the recommended two-finger rule for sunscreen application.

We tested this sunscreen on various skin types, including oily, dry, and combination, and were pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback from everyone.

While the sunscreen contains hyaluronic acid and provides some moisturization, it’s still advisable not to skip your regular moisturizer because the matte finish can sometimes feel slightly drying. The product is ideal for reapplication owing to its amazing texture and blend-ability.

Review Conditions

Following are the conditions under which this sunscreen was tested:

  • The product was used in the peak summers of a humid city with temperatures touching 43 degrees Celsius on some days (yes, you read that right!).
  • We tested the sunscreen on people with different skin types (oily, dry, combination, and normal) and also different skin tones (fair to dark olive)
  • All participants used a gentle cleanser and a simple moisturizer before applying this sunscreen.
  • All participants double-cleansed after the end of the day. It was found that a single cleanse wasn’t enough to get the product off completely. Using micellar water or an oil-based cleanser is advised.
  • All participants were between the ages of 20 and 30.

  • Gives sheer coverage and blurs blemishes
  • Reduces the appearance of texture and pores on the face
  • Sweat Resistant (you need to double cleanse every night!)
  • Mattifies the skin and hides oiliness
  • Competitive price point and almost always available with exciting offers and discounts
