Cetaphil Facewash Review

Cetaphil is a brand that has placed itself in the middle ground; you can find its products in skin care shops and at your local pharmacist as well. It creates an idea that Cetaphil’s products are accessible and impactful.

One of the products I have been using for over three months is the Cetaphil face cleanser and it seems like the right time to share the review. There are some great things and some minor cons discussed in this article.

Before we get started, let me tell you about my skin type.

My Skin Type

  • Oily
  • Sensitive
  • Prone to breakouts
  • Oily but not suitable with sulfate-based face cleanser
  • Easily gets dry

You can understand why I wanted to go with a gentle and simple face cleanser with as few ingredients as possible. Anything with fragrance is a no for my skin.

For people in a hurry, Cetaphil facial cleanser has been good for my skin. I would not say great as some days I found one or two small acne popping out here and there. But overall, I have felt that my skin’s texture has improved a lot.

Now that we are done with the basics, let’s get into the detailed review of Cetaphil facial cleansers and our verdict on whether you should buy them or not.

Brand Claims and Ingredients

Cetaphil has been very clear in its claims. The facial cleanser is a simple face cleanser without any fragrance or foaming. It is suitable for all skin types, and it does not sting the eyes or cause any burning sensation on your face.

It comes with all the bells and whistles of a great facial cleanser for people with sensitive skin:

  • Moisturizing and does not dry your face
  • Soap-free and non-irritating to skin
  • Maintains pH of the skin and promotes natural skin barrier
  • Hypoallergenic – Does not cause allergies
  • Fragrance-free
  • Dermatologically tested
  • Clinically proven to remove 94% of impurities
  • Comes with vitamin B3 and B5

Ingredients

The list of ingredients in this face cleanser is small, and that’s a good thing. Here are all the ingredients as listed on the packaging:

  • Aqua
  • Cetyl Alcohol
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate
  • Stearyl Alcohol
  • Polysorbate 20
  • Methyl Paraben
  • Propylparaben
  • Butyl Paraben

As you can see, this product is not paraben-free. We’ll get to that later in the article.

Cetaphil Facewash Review

Physical Impression

The face cleanser comes in a plastic bottle which is made of good quality plastic. You can either opt for a push-down bottle but that would cost you more. The quality of the packaging is decent for the price.

Coming the star of the show, the face cleanser. Let’s take a look at the physical aspects of it.

Color

Cetaphil face cleanser is almost colorless. It does have a cloudy, turbid appearance but there is no coloring agent added.

Fragrance

There is no fragrance in the face cleanser. We tried to put the most sensitive noses over it and yet could not smell anything. That’s a huge plus point for it.

Thickness/Viscosity

The cleanser is decently thick. It is definitely not the thickest face cleanser we have used.

Application Impression

Coming to the application process, I used a good amount of the cleanser and gently rubbed it on my face for one to two minutes. The cleanser blends well but as it is not foaming, no matter how much you rub, it feels inadequate.

The face wash really struggled after my face was exposed to a lot of dust and pollution as it is very gentle. You will need to apply it twice if your face is very dirty or sweaty.

Instead of getting the foamy texture, you get a slimy, slippery texture on your face. The cleanser washes off quite easily. There was no irritation or burning sensation that I could feel.

Results and Review

After using the face cleanser for more than three months, I feel that the Cetaphil face cleanser is an excellent choice for people who have sensitive skin and are looking for something simple and affordable.

This face cleanser is very easily available at both offline and online stores and the 125 ml bottle can last 1-month (washing face twice a day)

My skin texture has improved, and I do not see any signs of irritation or damage on the skin. But, if you have acne-prone skin or maybe your skin is very sensitive, then going for other options would be better.

Also, if you are looking for a deep cleanser that thoroughly cleans your face, especially after you wear makeup, then skip Cetaphil face cleanser as it won’t cut it.

If your face is frequently exposed to pollutants and you want something that deeply cleans your face, or you like something with a foamy texture, this is not for you.

Also, if you like to stay away from products that come with paraben, then stay away from this face cleanser as well.

Verdict

Cetaphil face cleanser is a decent choice for people looking for absolute barebones face cleanser. It is very gentle and treats your skin the same way. But it fails when your skin is very dirty.

If you have sensitive skin, a sensitive wallet, or damaged skin, then Cetaphil face cleanser would be the best option for you. After using it for three months, my experience has been mostly positive.
