Re’Equil Pea Protein Hair Mask

Taking proper care of your hair is just as important as taking care of your skin and a hair mask is one of the best ways of making your hair feel soft, healthy, and bouncy. To achieve that, we used the Re’equil Pea Protein hair mask, and after using it for over three weeks, here’s the review.

Brand Claims and Ingredients

Re’equil offers this cream with the claim of making hair moist, and shiny, and repairing damaged hair. The main ingredients of this hair mask are pea protein and ceramides. The pea protein (along with other ingredients) repairs the hair while the ceramides provide deeper moisturization.

Apart from those two main ingredients, other key ingredients include:

Aqua, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydrolysed Pea Protein, Linoleic Acid (and) Linolenic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Brassicamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Polyquaternium-37, Ceramide IIIB, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Erythritol, Isoamyl Laurate, Behenyl Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate, Xylitol, Potassium Sorbate, Aspartic Acid, Fragrance.

This hair mask is free of paraben.

Claims are claims, and they need to be tested. While on paper (or on-screen), the hair mask seems very promising. Let’s see how it works.

Physical Impression

Starting with the packaging, the product comes in a very generic bottle. This hair mask is slightly expensive, so I was expecting the packaging to be slightly better. But not an issue, as long as the product is great.

The color of the cream is off-white, exactly what you’d expect a hair mask to look like. The same goes for consistency; the hair mask is waxy and thick. It is awfully similar to Mama Earth’s onion hair mask, even the smell. The similarities between Mama Earth Onion hair mask and this one were uncanny.

The Re’equil Pea Protein hair mask comes with a slight fragrance (and it is mentioned in their ingredient list as well). I do not mind slight fragrances in hair products. I want my hair to smell good. But the problem is the added fragrance in this hair mask does nothing.

It has a bizarre, waxy smell, similar to that of Mama Earth’s onion hair mask. If someone tells me that both of the hair masks are the same, I would believe it. The only difference would be you can get Mama Earth’s hair mask for almost ₹300 cheaper.

Application Impression

The application impression was good. Take a good amount of the hair mask, rub it all over your palm, and gently apply it to your hair. Make sure you run it all along the length of your hair. The mask sticks well to the hair. There was no itching or burning sensation while or after applying the mask.

Review Conditions

Before you read the review, here are some basic things you should know to understand the product well and make the right decision.

The reviewers tried this product in a warm and humid environment. While trying the product, the temperature often crosses the 36 degrees celsius mark. The humidity was also around the range of 40% to 70% and the AQI was not good at all. So the hair mask had to work a lot to make our hair better.

Along with the hair mask, the reviewers used L’Oréal Paris Hyaluronic Acid shampoo. We refrained from using any other product on our hair, even oils or serums.

Results and Review

Coming to the meat of the matter, how was the experience with the hair mask? With the crescendo building, the reveal is very anticlimactic; the hair mask is…meh. It is certainly not a bad product, but definitely not an extraordinary hair mask. You will notice some benefits, but you can get the same benefits from any other cheaper hair mask.

The crux here is that the price does not match the performance of the Re’equil Pea Protein Hair Mask with ceramides. In fact, I felt that my shampoo did a better job than the hair mask. One of the reviewers noticed increased hair fall while using the product, but that could have been due to other factors as well.

We used it for over three weeks so that we have enough data and after every use, the hair would feel great for the day. The next day, the effects of the hair mask would just fizzle out.

Something weird that we noticed was the instruction. It says that after applying the hair mask for 15-20 minutes, wash it off with a mild shampoo. We were confused. Generally, you wash your hair with a shampoo, apply the hair mask and leave it for a few minutes, and then wash it off with water. Here, the instructions are the opposite.

So we followed the instructions and the results were as expected; the hair mask was washed off. But then we applied the mask like a normal hair mask and lo and behold, it worked wonderfully. The hair was visibly shinier, fluffier, and smoother.

Alright, let’s summarize things so that you can get going and make your decision.
